A calming, stress-relieving yoga class to stretch and strengthen the body gradually. We begin with breath work (pranayama) to calm the body and the mind.; we then warm up to open the joints preparing the body to practice poses safely, and we end the class with a guided relaxation and meditation.
Is done on a mat on the floor and uses postures (asana) and stretches in combination with the breath to develop flexibility and relaxation. Hatha Yoga encourages proper alignment of the body and is excellent for increasing flexibility, developing strength, improving body awareness, building concentration and calming the mind.
Yin postures are passive, done with relaxed muscles and held for several minutes with deep breathing. This allows the body to release tensions and tightness, to enhance energy, cultivate an inward focus and surrender.
Restorative Yoga uses props (bolsters, blankets, belts, blocks and chairs) to modify traditional yoga poses. These supportive postures gently stretch, and flex the spine in all directions while opening the body to deep relaxation and healing. The class is ideal for those going through stressful times, suffering from chronic pain, illness, cancer, injury or major life changes.
This full body, gentle yoga practice will guide you through a series of passive poses allowing you time to fully release and relax. Physically, the poses in this class enhance the natural range of motion around joints allowing you the ability to release deep layers of connective tissue. Energetically, the practice will enhance the flow of prana (life force) in the tissues around the joints, where energy often stagnates.
Expect to hold poses for 3-10 minutes to allow your body to release using deep breathwork. We’ll use blankets, blocks and other props in mainly seated or lying poses to assist in relieving tension. Take this class to improve flexibility, release stress, and calm the nervous system after a hard workout or a hectic day.
“Nidra” means sleep. Yoga Nidra, “yoga sleep,” is a practice that stimulates deep relaxation. In a Nidra session, your mind will be guided through a series of steps that slow it down to alpha/theta wave length. Body awareness, focused breathing, and visualization help you tap into your innermost self. You will slip into that state between waking consciousness and deep sleep, simultaneously at rest and completely alert. You will emerge from a Nidra session completely relaxed but energized.
